Douglas Cook

Owner and Senior Value Advisor

Since 1988, Douglas has successfully directed multiple teams in sales, marketing, and management, resulting in significant business improvements and financial results. His approach involves proactively engaging major stakeholders, both inside and outside organizations, with the purpose of enhancing the value proposition for customers. This strategic focus has led to greater sales, margins, profitability, and overall organizational success. Through his experience, Douglas recognized the challenges faced by small- to mid-sized private business owners when it comes to originating and implementing initiatives that enhance their business’s value.

Douglas’s extensive background in ownership and executive roles during mergers and transitions led him to become a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA®) through the Exit Planning Institute. Earning this designation further inspired his vison of helping business owners develop exit strategies that build transferrable value in their companies prior to succession.

Complementing his practical expertise, Douglas earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Western Michigan University and his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. He further expanded his knowledge through the Executive Education program at Harvard Business School, focusing on strategy, negotiations, and company transitions. As a testament to his dedication in completing this program, university leadership awarded Douglas the status of Harvard Business School Alumni.

In April of 2020, drawing upon his extensive work history and education, Douglas established his own Minnesota based firm. He is Owner and Senior Value Advisor at Headwaters Strategic Succession Consulting, LLC.
